Statements - Age Concern's Structure & Work
About Age Concern | Age Concern's structure and work
Age Concern supports older people across the UK and abroad by providing services, by campaigning and through trading. There are Age Concerns in Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and internationally.
Age Concern enables older people to live fulfilling and independent lives in many different ways - from providing a hot meal in a stimulating environment to lobbying MPs to change government policy. Age Concern also offers opportunities to older people within the community, either as paid staff or as volunteers, ensuring their skills and knowledge are used.
The federation
In England, Age Concern is a federation of more than 400 local groups and organisations. Each local Age Concern is an independent charity, which can raise funds and work by itself or with others to raise funds, provide services or campaign. Age Concern England represents the federation, and speaks up for older people, at a national level.
Local and national
Age Concern is the only organisation that works for older people across the UK at all levels - national, regional and local. We can therefore give both regional and national perspectives on ageing issues.
Because we are local, we can react to local issues quickly and work with local government to ensure that the needs of older people are met. But Age Concern's local service provision does not just rely on local expertise; it also taps the vast reservoir of knowledge built up by a federation of charities focused on the needs of older people.
Effective partnerships
Age Concerns work in partnership with other organisations, such as local authorities and healthcare providers, to give services tailored to local needs.
